Here’s a brief overview of the applications and methods I use in my work. I’ve been known to become adept overnight at any new-to-me software. So go ahead, try me.
Web Design
- WordPress: a highly user-friendly, completely customizable CMS (content management system), used to build sites and manage blogs.
- Squarespace: another interface which is fairly user-friendly, but not as customizable as WordPress. Use it for blogs and sites.
- Adobe Acrobat & LiveCycle Designer: use to create PDFs, both static and dynamic. Great for creating complex forms which capture valuable data.
- Adobe Dreamweaver: a fantastic, all-encompassing program for building sites, from the ground up.
- Adobe Fireworks: this bitmap and vector graphics editor is my primary tool for creating custom web graphics and interactive elements.
- Adobe Flash: the premiere tool for the creation of custom animation of text and graphics. Great for video and adding interactivity too.
- Adobe Photoshop: hands down, the leader in graphics editing. Endless capabilities means endless possibilities.
Print Design
- Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop (see above)
- Adobe Illustrator: the leader in vector graphics editing. Literally create any graphic for any purpose. Amazing.
- Adobe In-Design: creation and layout genius for publications, print media, posters, brochures, flyers, etc. Similar to QuarkXPress.
Social Media
- Facebook: the most used social network in the world. Far more than a “connect-with-your-friends” tool, businesses with an effective presence can see powerful results.
